Khmer Rouge

Submitted by derms on Fri, 31/12/2004 - 2:33pm.

So many people we met in Cambodia had relatives that were killed by the Khmer Rouge. They slaughtered 2 million people all up. One of our tour guides grandfather was killed by the Khmer Rouge. One of our boat drivers entire family was slaughtered. He was only a baby and his family gave him to the neighbours before they were taken away. One of our motorbike drivers told us his wife and children were murdered in Phnom Penh. He moved to Battambang because being in Phnom Penh reminded him too much of his family.

Cambodia - Days 9 to 14

Day 9 - Kirirom National Park: We headed off early on our journey to Kirirom National Park. Our tour guide and driver was an ex-Khmer Rouge Chief. He was forced into the Khmer Rouge army when he was 15 or 16 and would be showing us part of the Junge/Forrest where he use to fight. He was actually a really nice guy.

Cambodia - Days 5 to 8

Submitted by derms on Thu, 30/12/2004 - 11:03am.

Day 5 - Battambang: Lotte and I had planned to go to Battambang by boat. Our tickets said otherwise. Our tour guide in Siem Reap - whose slogan on his business card read "Same Same But Different" - had given us tickets to Phnom Penh instead. Also, he was suppose to organise (and pay for) the transportation from the hostel to the boat. He organised the transportation fine, but neglected to pay for it. A bit annoying, but we eventually got underway on what was a torturous eight hour boat ride to Battambang.

Lotte and I spent two weeks in Cambodia and its been awesome!! We decided to go on a "package" tour so that all our accomodation etc would be taken care of. This is a blow by blow account of what we did.
