Three Pagodas Pass

Lotte and I travelled to Sangkhlaburi, the town closest to the Three Pagodas Pass, which, over the centuries, has been the invasion route for the Burmese, a station for the Death Railway during World War II, and a stronghold for local rebels fighting for autonomy. It is also located at the border of Myanmar (Burma) and much smuggling occurs there.

There is not much to do in Sangkhlaburi (plus we had no reliable map of the place), but it was quite interesting to see the people there. They are quite different to the rest of Thailand - ethnic Karen and Mon tribes make up the majority of the population. Our main motive for going there was so that we could travel into Myanmar for a day.
